Renting an apartment in Bangkok can be complicated if you don’t know all the differences between apartments and are new to the city. But there are many qualified real estate agents who are well-versed in the ins and outs of the rental requirements and have a thorough knowledge of the city.
For ex-pats and those new to the city of Bangkok, engaging one of these real estate agents is the best way to quickly locate a desirable apartment in an area of the city that provides everything you need to enjoy your new life in the capital of Thailand.
Three Apartment Options
You’ll find in renting an apartment in Bangkok that there are two grades of apartments. Grade A apartments are located in the more desirable areas of the city, close to public rapid transit systems and local attractions such as quality schools, shopping centers and a variety of restaurants.
They are also generally newer apartments that have many amenities such as fully-equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, and modern bathrooms. They are located in a superior complex as well. The complex will offer a swimming pool, fitness center, garden and children’s play area, and 24-hour security.
Most Grade A apartments are also located within the CBD area of Bangkok, which makes them extremely convenient for commuters and people who enjoy life in the heart of the city.
Grade B apartments can be just as nice and comfortable, but they are generally older apartments in a less desirable area, or not within easy reach of the most popular forms of public transit. They also provide slightly fewer services and amenities than the newer apartment buildings.
Serviced apartments are another option. These apartments are rented in a fully-furnished state and come complete with cleaning and maid services. They usually offer the same level of amenities as Grade A apartments. A serviced apartment is a good choice for someone who is planning to spend less than a year in Bangkok, as they generally rent by the month instead of by the year.
Difference Between Apartments and Condos
When renting an apartment in Bangkok, it’s useful to understand the definition of both an apartment and a condo. Apartments are generally units in a building that is owned by a single owner. The owners of the apartment will act as the property manager as well, and you will pay your rent to this owner.
In a condo, the individual units are all owned by different owners. These owners are also the co-owners of the common areas of the condo complex, such as the swimming pool, garage, and lobby. Each condo owner is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of their unit. You’ll also be paying your rent to the owners directly, or through a property management service, they’ve hired to take care of the unit for them.
Renting an apartment in Bangkok can be complicated, but it’s generally a painless process when engaging a qualified and experienced real estate agent who knows the best areas to find the best available apartments.
